![]() Ancient Astronauts: By their own words, they have visited Earth for thousands of years, and influenced mankind's development.Alien Fair Folk: Their meddling in human history is implied to be the origin of the faerie myths.Their Skiffs are tiny and weak, but have excellent speed and agility, no inertia, an auto-aiming laser, and the ability to teleport randomly around the battle area. They have a much more developed mastery over interdimensional travel than most races. Their motives are mostly known only to themselves, but they are very protective of the Earthlings. Turned Against Their Masters: They had to rebel against humans because they essentially turned the Androsynth into slaves.Īffiliation: Formerly Alliance of Free Stars, currently none (recruitable)Īdvanced and mysterious, the Ariloulalee'lay (or Arilou) joined the Alliance at the same time the Earthlings did. ![]() The drawback is that they are all sterile. Transhuman Aliens: They are genetically engineered human clones designed to be "stronger, smarter, and more adaptable than normal humans".And after another decade, the Androsynth are all suddenly gone as they unknowingly came into contact with some extradimensional entity that manifested itself as the Orz. Only to be enslaved again by the Ur-Quan a few decades later. Then they rebelled, fled Earth, and colonized a new world. Shoot the Shaggy Dog: The Androsynth were created and lived as equals to naturally-born humans at first - only to be reduced to slaves due to Homo Deus' propaganda. Also, while they didn't exactly volunteer to join the Hierarchy, it is quite possible that they enjoyed killing their former human masters during the war (the manual states Androsynth pilots enjoy to destroy Earthling cruisers for sport, and Starbase Commander Hayes' dialogue suggests they certainly hold us a drudge.) Servant Race: The reason they rebelled and fled to another planet.Put on a Bus to Hell: To quote the Arilou, "You do not wish to be seen. Now where they used to be there is only *Orz*. All we know is that they experimented with dimension fatigue technology. Nothing Is Scarier: What happened to them. The anti-Androsynth bigotry, however, remained, and spread to the whole planet. The discrimination against the Androsynth began at the hands of a millenarian cult which eventually faded away. Humans Are the Real Monsters: Well, as close to this trope as you can get when the worst evils in the story are aliens, but still the problems of the Androsynth are due to the cruelty of humanity.Their acidic bubble weapon gradually homes in towards the opponent, but it maintains an erratic pattern and is best used in-close regardless. Higher-Tech Species: They wasted no opportunity when their masters used them to perform research, which led to them pulling off their great escape.Great Escape: They fled en masse through hyperspace dozens of years before the Chenjesu visited the Solar System.Since the Androsynth being homosexuals was a sort of tribute to their gay friends, this stereotype annoyed the designers, who saw it as a subversion of the game's pro-LGBT message. Executive Meddling: The bit about all Androsynth being "fashion design engineers" was apparently put into the manual without the designers' knowledge (and didn't even make much sense in context, since it was talking about the aesthetics of their ships).Though their grievance isn't so much with how they were created, it's how they were treated afterward. ![]() Heck, it's right in their name, which literally means "artificial man". Technically they're more like neuters, but male in appearance.
